Ensemble de pectens fossiles

Fossil Pecten Plate

Gigantopecten restitutensis
Miocene
Vaucluse, Lacoste, France

A dramatic and stunning display of fossil pectens from a Miocene shoreline sediment. This natural assemblage from a genus of large scallop, a marine bivalve mollusk, emphasizes the interesting texture and three-dimensional depth of each specimen, positioned as discovered in limestone matrix, the largest of which measures 12 cm across.

The pecten shell is one of the most typical ornamental features of Mediterranean renaissance architecture and is found on most of the buildings of that time. As this specimen demonstrates, its aesthetic appeal has not diminished with time. Specimen measures 45 x 41 x 14 cm (2)

Footnotes

Accompanied with a custom-fitted black metal stand measuring 45 x 50 x 14 cm
