Fossil Shark's Tooth

Carcharodon megalodon
Miocene
South Carolina, USA

Carcharodon megalodon was the largest shark that ever lived, growing to more than fifty feet in length. This immense 15-20-million-year-old tooth was found in the muddy river waters of South Carolina. Estimating the length of a shark at about 3.0 meters in length to every 2.5 cm of tooth, this behemoth would have been over 16 meters long. This large, robust shark tooth displays nearly perfect serrations and a beautiful steely, grey-brown patina on the enamel. A complete root also recommends this specimen. Measuring 13.4 x 12 x 6 cm
