Crabe fossile

Fossil Crab

Harpactocarcinus punctulatus
Middle Eocene
Monte Baldo, Verona, Italy

A fine example of an extinct species of fossil crab peacefully perched on his original matrix. It has been professionally prepared to showcase the beautiful preservation of this classic fossil locality. The carapace is detailed and bears several spines along the sides while the claws and legs are in lifelike position—almost as if the crab were ready to scuttle off.

The Monte Baldo quarry near Verona, Italy, once produced many fine specimens of crabs from the Eocene, but like many of the classic quarries in Europe, it is now closed and will no longer produce specimens. Crab measures 17 x 13 cm (2)

Offered in a display case of wood, with removable acrylic cover.
