Footnotes

There are two services mentioned in the sale records of 1788 that match the decoration of these plates (known as 'Lyres' or 'Souvenirs etc. et Lyres en or'), one was purchased by the Marquis de Néelle, the other by M. Piccaluga, probably on behalf of Giovanni Battista Grimaldi. See David Peters, Sèvres Plates and Services of the 18th Century (2005, revised edition 2015), IV, pp. 875 - 879, nos. 88-12 and 88-13.
