An Italian carved white marble bust of an Emperor, possibly depicting Marcus Aurelius

After the antique, probably 17th/18th century
The sitter modelled full face with curling beard and wavy short hair, his shoulders clad in drapery secured with a circular pin and a ceremonial sash, raised on a rectangular plinth inset with oval porphyry panels on a moulded square foot, the marble surface now weathered, the bust, 46cm high, the pedestal, 38cm high, 61.5cm high overall

By repute, formerly in the collection of the Pignatelli family and originally from one of the family's residences in Naples.
