Vibrant, light-hearted, and vivacious, Ayako Rokkaku's works always delight viewers with their joyous energy. Her meteoric rise in the art market and collectors circles has made her a star in the contemporary art world. Museums around the world, including Kunsthal Museum, Rotterdam, the Netherlands; Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum, Slovakia; and Chiba Prefectural Museum of Art, Japan have all enthusiastically hosted solo exhibitions for her. The two Ayako Rokkaku paintings offered in the Bonhams Spring Sale, Rainbow and a Girl and Wanna Eat It!, are exemplary canvas works by the artist.

Rainbow and a Girl encompasses all the crucial elements in Ayako Rokkaku's creative practice: the red-haired girl commanding a large part of the picture has enormous eyes that are filled with wonder; the fluttering butterflies and rainbow on the right side of the picture flood the flower fields in the background with radiant colours. The entire work is set in motion by the jovial girl leaping across the brilliant fields with acrobatic energy. The girl in Wanna Eat It! stares at the cake on the table with intense anticipation as if she is waiting for a birthday party to begin. These childhood scenes are adorable, and they speak to the childlike sensibilities inside of every viewer.

Largely self-taught, Japanese female artist Ayako Rokkaku enjoys painting live with her barehands as her signature performance. As the artist swirls the paint around the canvas with her slender fingers, viewers are reminded of the rich lineage of post-war contemporary artists who discarded the use of any instruments and interacted directly with paint and canvases: Yves Klein used the human body as a living brush in his Anthropometry works; Kazuo Shiraga painted texturally compelling oil works with his bare feet. Ayako Rokkaku manipulates the paint meticulously with her fingertips in order to mark her bodily presence and project her spirit onto the canvas. She elaborated, "I like painting on surfaces that are bigger than I am. Moving across such an enormous canvas makes me feel like the colours are flowing inside me". With her bodily-kinaesthetic, Ayako Rokkaku achieves a state of creative purity by making her works in an experiential manner. The childlike wonder that she expresses on the canvas is elevated into a visual symphony by her ingenious yet intuitive use of colours.


明亮、輕快、活潑!六角彩子的作品總是為大家帶來愉悅的心情與活力,近年備受市場與藏家力捧的她儼然成為當代藝術當中必不可少的名字。她充滿個人特色的女孩畫作,世界各地的博物館如荷蘭鹿特丹的昆斯塔爾博物館、多瑙河上的達努比阿納梅倫斯汀藝術博物館和日本千葉縣藝術博物館已爭先替她舉行個人展覽。是次邦瀚斯春拍中呈獻的兩張六角彩子畫布作品《彩虹與女孩》及《想吃掉它!》屬於她的經典布上作品。

《彩虹與女孩》包含六角彩子所有重要的創作元素:偌大的紅髮女孩、她那充滿童稚的大眼睛、拍動翅膀的蝴蝶、右方的彩虹如同將色彩流溢至花田背景一樣,令整體畫面繽紛多彩,更襯托出左方又大又活潑的女孩如同跨越彩虹一樣的舞動身姿。《想吃掉它!》當中的小女孩巴巴地看著桌上的蛋糕,尤如渴望著生日派對的美食一般,更令人覺得可親可愛。

這位自學成才的日本女藝術家喜歡在現場繪畫表演中展示其招牌徒手上色的創作技巧,藝術家纖細的手指遊移在畫布上,承襲一群戰後當代藝術家撇脫畫筆工具,直接以身體與顏料、畫布互動的創作方式。伊夫‧克萊恩以身體創作人體測量畫;白髮一雄以雙足繪製質感十足的油畫;六角彩子以指尖的細膩觸覺融合色彩,都將肉體本質與內在精神投射到畫作中。誠如藝術家所言︰「我喜歡在比我大得多的東西上繪畫。在如此巨大的畫布角落之間來回走動,讓我感到色彩就在我的體內流動一樣。」身體的能量、創作中的純粹感受、源自於內心的童趣、各種鮮明色彩交織的視覺享受,均在畫布上融為一體。
