HARDSTONE CAMEO, 17TH CENTURY

Oval, possibly representing a wedding with the bride, followed by an attendant, making a libation on the altar of love, before Hymen/Cupid standing behind it, watched by the bridegroom (the man in the toga) in the presence of Venus or a hermaphrodite, length 6.9cm

Footnotes

The scene probably derives from a Renaissance prototype, itself inspired by an ancient relief.
