Provenance:
A Private Collection of 20th Century Jewellery
Born in Rome in 1936, Aldo Cipullo's family owned a company specialising in costume jewellery. He moved to New York in 1959 to study at the School of Visual Arts. He then worked as a designer for David Webb, moving to Tiffany, and finally Cartier before establishing his own business. Cipullo is best known for creating the iconic 'Love' bangle for Cartier in 1969. Fastening at the wrist via two screws with a Cartier screwdriver, the bangles were conceived to be exchanged between partners and never taken off. Cipullo became one of Cartier's most successful designers during the 1970s. His bold designs were inspired by medieval jewels, incorporating polished semi-precious stones mounted in gold geometric settings.
