THE SL55 AMG
AMG, which is now the official performance division of Mercedes-Benz, has a long history of producing high-performance derivatives of Mercedes' standard production vehicles, and these improved versions enjoy an enthusiastic following worldwide, with prominent figures of the motor sports, entertainment, sport, and business communities being counted among aficionados. On January 1, 2005 the then-parent company DaimlerChrysler acquired 100% of AMG's shares, leading to the creation of what is now one of the world's most celebrated performance marques: Mercedes-AMG.
The AMG DNA residing in its performance and racing heritage, an AMG engine building process follows a strict protocol and tradition, particularly through the hand-building of each of these huge powerhouses by one designated 'Master' of the AMG Tradition. This allows for a close attention to details and extreme precision through the whole process.
Like two matching DNAs, the AMG and SL ones were made to be associated; the SL designation surely is one of the most resonating from the Mercedes-Benz History, and probably the most precise meeting point between performance, design and comfort. Presented in October 2021, the 2022 SL (R232) is no stranger to that legacy, proudly carrying on the SL tradition.
Sharing the 4.0-liter Biturbo V8 with its bigger sister SL63, both cars are actually very close in performance with a 0-60 of 3.5 sec for the 63 against 3.8 sec for the 55, despite a huge 108bhp difference. The car's architecture and behavior are like no other, notably being supported by both all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering, a body made of aluminum, high-strength steel, magnesium and fiber composites creating a whole that's more rigid, more safety-focused, and more precisely crafted. This performance package is presented in a stunning looking 2+2 hard-top convertible, once again affirming SL's purest attributes of performance and elegance.
