According to Movado the Polyplan was launched extraordinarily early in wristwatch history in 1912 and was already lightyears ahead of its competition in design and technical advancement. The Movado Polyplan housed a movement based on three planes enabling the case to become highly curved. The running wheels were fitted to the center plate, a large balance wheel enabling improved accuracy to the lower plate angled at 25 degrees and the winding barrel to the upper plate, also fitted at 25 degrees.
The Polyplan was available in silver, 14k gold and 18k gold cases in two sizes, the regular 'mini' tonneau shape case and the large curved rectangular 'maxi' case; due to the excessive costs of production the Polyplan was discontinued with a suggested manufacture not exceeding 1500 examples.
The model offered in an 18k white gold full size maxi case is the rarest combination available of this model. It is interesting to note that the case has a hint of yellow due to the early manufacture and high content of gold to nickel when producing 18k white gold. The condition makes this one of the best examples we have seen.
