The reference 4467 was launched in 1945 in celebration of Rolex's 40th anniversary and has taken on the nickname 'Ovettone' due to its egg-shaped case. The watch was very well received upon release and has remained a favourite amongst collectors due to a number of memorable features. It was the brand's first waterproof, automatic, certified Chronometer wristwatch with a date function as well as having a large case size for the time of 36mm, necessary to house the reference's large rotor. The 'Ovettone', which would later become the Datejust, was only produced for 4 years in relatively small numbers. The thin milled or reeded bezel associated with this reference would evolve into the fluted bezel associated with the modern day Datejust. Furthermore, the current lot features a desirable roulette black/red date wheel.
