APOLLO COMMAND / SERVICE MODULE EVA LIGHTS
Pair of Exterior Light Assemblies, each approximately 1000 mm overall length, with spring-loaded mounting bracket Part no V37-31062011, each fitted with 6 grouped miniature xenon(?) bulbs and wired for use to 4-pin aviator connector.
Provenance: Purchased as surplus by a North American Rockwell engineer.
Two light assemblies that would have been affixed to the exterior of the Apollo Service Module and would have supplied visibility for EVA (Extravehicular Activity). From Wheelright, Charles D. Apollo Experience Report - Crew Station Orientation Volume V - Lighting Considerations. Washington D.C.: NASA, June 1973.: "The light was positioned between the right rendezvous window and side window by a 24-inch pole, mounted to the SM, that was extended automatically after the boost protective cover was jettisoned. The light fixture was the same as that used for the running lights except that the color filters had been removed. The light was oriented to illuminate the CM hatch, right-side EVA handrails, and LM EVA transfer handrails. The illumination of this light was 0.2 to 0.5 ft-c on the CM mold line. This light also served as a docking floodlight to illuminate the CSM for LM active docking" (pp 20-21) A rare item at auction.
