PROJECT GEMINI

PAIR OF FLOWN HEAT SHIELD FRAGMENTS.
Each approximately 35 x 40 mm pie slice-shaped fragment, 1961-1966, encased in Gemini capsule-shaped Lucite, 98 x 48 mm.

The present heat shield fragments display the characteristic charred surface layer and provides a cross-sectional view of the honeycomb form of the silicone elastomer material of the deeper layers. At some point the Lucite-encased heat shield fragments were each separated from their base, which would have identified from which mission they came.
