Autograph Manuscript, fragment of a chapter, from his book Primer for Those who would Govern, 7 pp recto and verso paginated 9-15, legal folio, n.p., n.d., one leaf on verso of printed advertisement, toning and thumbing throughout. WITH: Typed Letter Signed ("H. Oberth"), identifying and authenticating from photocopies the present leaves as his own work, 1 p, 4to, Feucht, Germany, August 2, 1987, on personal letterhead, with original transmittal envelope. AND WITH: a 4 x 6 inch gelatin silver print photo of an Oberth rocket and an August 1957 issue of Weltraumfahrt Zeitschrift fur Raketentechnik featuring Oberth and Werner von Braun on the cover.
Oberth is considered one of the fathers of rocketry. He mentored a young Werner von Braun in the 1920s and worked alongside of him at Peenemunde during WWII. He published many important works on the subject of rocketry, but in his retirement he turned his attention to larger issues confronting the global community. His last book was Primer for Those Who Would Govern; this excerpt is from a chapter on "the overuse of modern man."
