MOY & BASTIE 35

35mm motion picture camera, London, Ernest F. Moy, Ltd, c.1909, wooden with brass binding and top panel, 333 x 403 x 130 mm, serial no 271, with 2 wooden magazines, replacement[?] leather handle.

The Ernest F. Moy company made their first camera in 1900 when after trying their hand at the new art of filmmaking, they discovered that the current selection of cameras on the market proved problematic. In 1905 one of their cameras was taken on Robert Scott's Antarctic expedition. The present camera, first patented in 1909, became a favorite of Hollywood film makers due to its reliable chain-driven mechanism and magazine which could be loaded in daylight.
