EINSTEIN ON UNIFIED FIELD THEORY
Autograph Letter Initialed ("A.E."), in German, to longtime assistant Ernst Gabor Straus on compatibility within the Unified Field Theory and with a series of equations on the compatibility of the strong system, 1 p, 4to (280 x 215 mm), ink on unlined paper, with watermark of "Whiting's mutual bond rag content," receipt docketed at top February 18, 1950, small tears along top edge, very clean.
HIGHLY SCIENTIFIC EINSTEIN LETTER TO ERNST STRAUS EXPLORING UNIFIED FIELD THEORY. Ernst Gabor Straus was a brilliant mathematician who worked as Einstein's assistant from 1944-1948, publishing three important joint papers together. The two continued a working relationship as Einstein continued his quest for a Unified Field Theory. Here Einstein outlines to Straus with a series of mathematical equations on the compatibility of the strong system. The UFT approach begun by Einstein in 1945, and continued with Straus in 1946, was a return to ideas he had begun exploring in the 1920s.
He notes in the final paragraph to Straus: "If the strong system doesn't have offer enough solutions the theory must be given up. But for now, my instinct tells me that it is correct." Einstein continued his work on the Unified Field Theory and this final approach until his death in 1955, with his final paper on the subject, "A new form of the general relativistic field equations," published in July 1955, three months after his death.
