Von Würmern des süssen und salzigen Wassers. Copenhagen: Heineck, Mumme and Faber, 1771.
4to (245 x 193 mm). Engraved vignette on title, 3 engraved tables and 16 engraved illustration plates. Contemporary calf gilt, marbled endpapers.
Provenance: Rudolph Bergh, dated 1847 (on front flyleaf).
WITH: Another copy, as above. Engraved plates extended on wove paper at back, including additional printing of the title page vignette. 19th-century boards.
FIRST AND ONLY EDITION. Müller was a Danish naturalist who was commissioned by Frederik V to continue the work of Georg Christian Oeder on Flora Danica, to which he added 2 volumes. As one of the first biologists to study micro-organisms, Müller was something of a pioneer, establishing new classifications for a number of animals which had been overlooked by Linnaeus.
