4to (240 x 185 mm). Contemporary vellum with later repairs. Covers soiled and stained, ink notations to front paste-down, blank and title page, upper corner of front blank torn away, marginal dampstaining to lower outside corner, some old ink marginalia and underlining.
FIRST EDITION of the earliest known scientific work on dermatology and disease, the "first systematic textbook on diseases of the skin" (Garrison-Morton-Norman). "Extremely well indexed and organized, the book follows Galen's example of dividing diseases of the head from those of the rest of the body. Also present with this work is his De excrementis in which he discusses the excretions and excrements of the body" (Heirs of Hippocrates). The first edition of this important work is VERY RARE, with no other copies at auction since the Norman copy in 1998, according to Rare Book Hub and ABPC. Durling 3094; Garrison-Morton-Norman 3980; Heirs of Hippocrates 355.
