An Iron Tsuba
Muromachi (1333-1573) or Momoyama (1573-1615) period, 16th/early 17th century
Mokkō (four-lobed) with a slender hammered-up rim, chiseled with stylized flower petals in an Amida (radiating) arrangement, pierced to right and left of the nakago-ana (central opening) with two large openings in the shape of namako (sea cucumbers) each with a later gilt metal lining; with a Hozon Tōsōgu (Sword Fitting Worthy of Preservation) certificate # 4010539 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword) dated November 8, 2016, and with a wood storage box (2)
