A RUSSET-IRON SUIT OF ARMOR WITH A SAOTOME-SCHOOL KABUTO

Edo period (1615-1868), 18th century
The armor laced in blue with orange trim and comprising a 62-plate russet-iron suji kabuto in goshōzan style, the mabizashi trimmed with a shakudō fukurin and the five-lame Hineno jikoro lacquered black with cherry-floret family crests in hiramaki-e on the fukigaeshi, the gilt-metal maedate formed as a stylized dragon, the bowl signed on the interior rear Saotome Ietada; the black-lacquer menpō with a prominent nose and chin and with a four-lame yodarekake; the russet-iron nimai yokohagi okegawa dō with dome rivets and fitted with seven sections of five-lame kusazuri trimmed with boar's fur; chūsode; odagote; Etchū haidate; shino suneate; one armor storage box; no armor stand
