A RUSSET IRON RESSEI MENPŌ WITH A BULBOUS NOSE

Edo period (1615-1868), 18th/19th century
Forged in two sections with a removable nose plate and applied with a stiff-bristle mustache, the upper lip lacquered red and the teeth silvered, two cord pegs on the jaw line, ear-shaped ear guards, the interior red lacquer, the four-lame yodarekake lacquered black and red and laced in blue, orange, and four-colored lacing
6 1/8in (15.5cm) high, excluding throat defense
