A TANTŌ KOSHIRA-E

Edo period (1615-1868), 18th/19th century
The saya lacquered crimson, the kurikata and koiguchi black lacquer, the saya fitted with brass kozuka with design of gilt egret on a reed with nanako ground, the tsuba gilded brass in rectangular shape with lobed corners with shippō (linked circle) motif, the fuchi-gashira of shakudō and gold with design of flower heads and butterflies on nanako ground, both menuki of shakudō and gold, one of a hanaguruma (cart heaped with flowers) containing boughs of cherry blossoms, the other of a bunch of flowers, with a later stand
