A FINE ITOMAKI TACHI GOSHIRA-E

Edo period (1615-1868), 19th century
The nashiji saya decorated in low-relief gold takamaki-e with chrysanthemum and paulownia crests associated with the Imperial Household, the area beneath the doeskin ashi (hangers) wrapped in green brocade and white silk, the tsuka finished to match, the tachi hardware all with chrysanthemum and paulownia crests in gold takazōgan against a shakudō nanako ground, gold and shakudō circular menuki and sanmai awase mokkō tsuba decorated to match the hardware
With a Hozon Tōsōgu (Sword Fitting Worthy of Preservation) certificate #456549 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword), dated October 27, 2008
