A Fine Presentation Katana in Exceptional Tachi Mounts
Taisho era (1912-1926), dated 1916
Sugata (configuration): honzukuri, iorimune, toriizori, chūgissaki
Kitae (forging pattern): itame hada in jinie
Hamon (tempering pattern): gunome mixed with chōji midare based in nie
Bōshi (tip): komaru with hakikake
Nakago (tang): ubu with kiri file marks and one hole, katana mei Teishitsu Gigei'in Sugehara Kanenori hachijūnana ō saku (Made by Sugehara Kanenori, Artist-Craftsman to the Imperial Household, at the age of 87), and dated Taishō gonen jūichigatsu kichijitsu (An auspicious day in November 1916)
Habaki (collar): one-piece, silver
Nagasa (length from tip to beginning of tang): 27 7/8in (70.8cm)
Motohaba (width at start of tempered edge): 1 1/4in (3.2cm)
Sakihaba (width before tip): 7/8in (2.2cm)
In shirasaya (wood storage scabbard) with sayagaki (inscription) by Tanobe Michihiro, dated winter, 2014


The tachi goshira-e comprising a gold nashiji saya decorated with cherry blossoms on scrolling vines in gold hiramaki-e, the silver tsuka engraved with scrolling vines against a nanako ground and applied with tweezer-style menuki decorated with a cherry blossom, signed on the fuchi, [][][] Miyata Nobuaki, the tachi hardware all decorated to match the tsuka, the solid silver sanmai awase mokkō-gata tsuba decorated with vines against a nanako ground, with a purple doeskin hanger
