HANBE TOSHINORI (ACTIVE CIRCA 1781-1810)

An Inaba Katana
Edo period (1615-1868), dated 1796
The broad sword with a thick kasane and honzukuri, iorimune configuration with an extended kissaki and toriizori curvature, forged in itame hada with a gunome tempered edge in nie and nioi and a midarekomi bōshi, the ubu tang with katte sagari file marks, one hole, signed Hanbe Mino no kami Fujiwara Toshinori, and dated Kansei hachinen hinoe-tatsu nigatsu no hi (A day in the second month of 1796), with a one-piece silver habaki, 27 1/4in (69.2cm) long, in a wood shirasaya wood storage scabbard
With Tokubetsu Kichō Tōken (Especially Precious Sword) certificate # 371549 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword), dated June 10, 1979
