AN IRON KAWARI KABUTO

20th century
Constructed of five russet-iron plates riveted together and worked in uchidashi technique, modeled as a bird-like manifestation of Karura (Garuda), the front plate with the bulbous eyes, beak, and wattle highlighted in gilt and red pigment, the side plates with ears, and the rear plate with a feather fan, all hammered up in high relief, the exposed rivets ringed with floral grommets and cruciform floral arabesques and the crown finished with a row of spikes, inscribed on the interior Bamen Tomonori saku, fitted with a five-lame Hinen jikoro laced in blue
With a Kichō Shiryō (Important Material) certificate # 1194 issued by the Nihon Katchū Bugu Kenkyū Hozon Kai (Society for the Study and Preservation of Armor), dated November 13, 2016
