ECHIGO KANESADA (ACTIVE 1648-1673)

A Settsu Katana
Edo period (1615-1686), 17th century
Honzukuri, iorimune chūgissaki, toriizori forged in tightly packed ko-itame hada with jinie, the tempered edge notare mixed with chōji-gunome midare with nie, ashi, yō and utsuri, ending in a komaru bōshi, the ubu tang with two holes and signed Echigo no kami Kanesada, with a two-piece gilt-foil habaki, 21in (53.3cm) long, in a wood shirasaya storage scabbard with attestation and inscription by Honma Junji
With a Tokubetsu Kichō Tōken (Especially Precious Sword) certificate # 306539 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword), dated March 23, 1975
