MUSASHI TARŌ YASUKUNI (1650-1730)

A Musashi Wakizashi in Mounts
Edo period (1615-1868), 17th/18th century
Honzukuri, iorimune with extended kissaki and toriizori curvature, forged in ko-itame hada in jinie, the tempered edge gunome midare with togari gunome midare, and kogunome midare in nie and nioi, ending in a midarekomi bōshi, the ubu tang with katte sagari file marks, one hole, signed Musashi Tarō Yasukuni and inscribed Shin jūgomai kōbuse saku (Made with 15 true pieces), with a one-piece gilt habaki, 20 3/4in (53.0cm)
The koshira-e comprising a crushed-shell and lacquer saya fitted with shakudō nanakoji kozuka decorated with Tadamori apprehending an oil thief in iro-e takazōgan, the tsuka wrapped in black silk over same and fitted with shakudō ishime-ji fuchi-gashira with courtiers under pine trees in iro-e takazōgan and gilt and shakudō menuki formed as armor components, the iron sukashi tsuba carved with a tasseled halberd with gilt highlights, signed Bushū no jū Masafusa
With Hozon Tōken (Sword Worthy of Preservation) certificate # 3006141 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword), dated July 9, 2014
