A Fine Presentation Katana with Mounts
Meiji era (1868-1912), dated 1871
Sugata (configuration): honzukuri, iorimune extended kissaki and nearly straight toriizori configuration
Kitae (forging pattern): tight koitame hada
Hamon (tempering pattern): gunome midare mixed with kochōji midare with clusters of nie along the broad nioiguchi with ashi, kinsuji, and sunagashi
Bōshi (tip): hakikake
Nakago (tang): ubu with keshō file marks, one hole, signed Naniwa no jū Gassan Unryūshi Sadakazu kore o seika, stamped Sada, and dated Meiji yonen hachigatsu kichijitsu (An auspicious day in the eighth month of 1871)
Habaki (collar): one-piece silver
Nagasa (length from tip to beginning of tang): 25 11/16in (65.2cm)
Motohaba (width at start of tempered edge): 1 1/4in (3.1cm)
Sakihaba (width before tip): 13/16in (2cm)
In a shirasaya (wood storage scabbard)
The Higo-style koshira-e with a black and red-striped glossy lacquer saya, the iron migaki-ji kojiri and matching fuchi-gashira decorated with scattered cherry blossoms in gold and silver hirazōgan, the tsuka tapering in the center in Higo style, wrapped with lacquered leather and mounted with shakudō menuki of galloping horses with gold, silver and copper highlights, the iron openwork tsuba pierced with a bamboo fence
With a Hozon Tōken (Sword Worthy of Preservation) certificate # 1016111 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword), dated August 27, 2021
