FUJIWARA TAKADA (ACTIVE CIRCA 17TH CENTURY)

A Wakizashi with Mounts
Momoyama (1573-1615) or Edo (1615-1868) period, early 17th century
Honzukuri, iorimune with a thick kasane and wide mihaba, extended kissaki, and slight koshizori curvature, forged in ko-itame hada with clear jinie, the tempered edge flamboyant gunome midare based in nie with sunagashi and kinsuji, ending in a midarekomi boshi, the slightly suriage tang with two holes and katte sagari file marks, with a one-piece silver-foil habaki, 20 1/4in (51.4cm) long, in a wood shirasaya storage scabbard
The koshira-e comprising a black ishime-ji lacquer saya decorated with floral heraldic crests in gold hiramaki-e the area near the koiguchi lacquered red, the shibuichi kojiri decorated in copper and shakudō flush inlays to match the saya, the tsuka wrapped in green over same and fitted with shibuichi migaki-ji fuchi-gashira decorated with travelers in katakiribori, signed Kashira Somin Saku, Ō Ju Nomura Masahiro, the shakudō menuki formed as rafts, with silver and gold highlights, the shakudō mokko plate Ichijō-style tsuba decorated with a pine tree and crashing waves in gold and silver takazōgan, signed
