A Yamashiro Katana with Fine Mounts
Edo period (1615-1868)
Sugata (configuration): honzukuri, iorimune, chūgissaki, toriizori
Kitae (forging pattern): koitame hada in jinie
Hamon (tempering pattern): suguha with a tight nioiguchi based in nie and nioi
Bōshi (tip): ko-maru with hakikake on the ura side
Nakago (tang): ubu with katte sagari file marks, two holes (very close together), signed Shinano no kami Fujiwara Nobuyoshi and with a chrysanthemum crest
Habaki (collar): one-piece, silver-foil
Nagasa (length from tip to beginning of tang): 23 7/8in (60.6cm)
Motohaba (width at start of tempered edge): 1 1/8in (2.8cm)
Sakihaba (width before tip): 7/8in (2.2cm)
In a shirasaya (wood storage scabbard)
The koshira-e mounted with matching silver hardware decorated with coiling dragons in swirling clouds and crashing waves in shishiaibori and gold takazōgan, the black-lacquer saya decorated with sayagata (key-fret) designs in black and gold hiramaki-e against a ground of sparse nashiji and fitted with a kojiri and kurikata, the tsuka wrapped in green silk over same and fitted with fuchi-gashira and silver, gold and shakudō menuki formed as dragons and tigers, the rounded rectangular plate tsuba signed Mito no jū Tomoyoshi saku, the hitsuana plugged with gilt copper, with a wood storage box
