TWO TSUKA WITH FUCHI-GASHIRA AND MENUKI

Edo period (1615-1868), 19th century
The first tsuka, of dark wood, with shakudō and gold fuchi-gashira with motif of old prunus tree, the holes in both fuchi and kashira plugged, the menuki of shakudō and gold in the form of grapes on the vine; the second tsuka, wrapped in light brown ito, with shakudō and gold fuchi-gashira with partial nanako ground with a motif of geese, waves, and water plants, the kashira attached to the tsuka with additional metal fittings on each side attaching it to the tsuka, the menuki of shakudō of the kamon (crest) maru ni atama-awase mittsu musubi-karigane (three head-butting knotted-geese within a circle)
