Edo period (1615-1868), late 18th/early 19th century
Almost circular, chiseled in high relief and with gold overlay and copper inlay depicting the demonic attendants of the Shuten Dōji mountain ogre, his palatial lair on the reverse, signed Toshū no jū Shōami Shigeyuki saku (Made by Shōami Shigeyuki of Tosa Province, Haynes 08599); with a Hozon Tōsōgu (Sword Fitting Worthy of Preservation) certificate # 4007754 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword) dated July 8, 2015, and with a wood storage box (2)
