A Shakudō Tsuba
Edo period (1615-1868), late 18th/early 19th century
Ovoid, applied with a gold nekogaki (striated) rim, the migakiji polished ground chiseled in relief and inlaid with gold and silver depicting New Year emblems including cranes building a nest, pines, and kadomatsu (cut pine saplings) by a stream; with a Hozon Tōsōgu (Sword Fitting Worthy of Preservation) certificate # 4003921 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword) dated January 17, 2014, and with a wood storage box (2)
