ASIA: SPEED AND JANSSON.

Two maps of Asia:
1. SPEED, JOHN. 1552-1629. Asia, with the Island Adjoining Described.... London: Thomas Bassett and Richard Chiswell, 1626 (but 1676 or later). Engraved map with hand coloring. 403 x 520 mm, on single folio sheet. 10 scenes of costumed figures in side borders, 8 city plans (Kandy, Goa, Calicut, Jerusalem, Hormuz, Bantam, Aden, and Macao) in upper border, English text on verso. Paper repairs along fold crease and to small hole on left-hand page around Eastern Persia. Tipped to mat board with 3 fabric tape hinges at upper verso.
2. JANSSON, JAN. 1588–1664. Iunnan, Queicheu, Quangsi, et Quantung, Provinciae Regni Sinensis. Amsterdam: c. 1658. Engraved map with hand coloring.
533 x 640 mm, on two leaves (joined at the center). Browning, a few small tears along margin edges, some old tape residue on verso at lower margin. Hinged at top verso to mat board. Matted, without frame. Extracted from Jansson's Atlas Maior, this map depicts Southern China, including Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, and Guangdong, and encompassing Macao and the area of present-day Hong Kong.
