11 volumes only. 4to. Comprising Aegyptische Chrestomathie; Tanis; The Royal Tombs (Part 1 only); Ehnasya; Deshasheh; Goshen; The Cemeteries of Abydos (2 volumes); Dier El-Bahar (2 volumes); and El Mahasna. Numerous color and black and white plates and illustrations in text. Publisher's quarter cloth and printed boards, lettered in red on spines. Rubbed, chipping to corners and edges, some loosening of bindings, soiling and handling wear.

British interest in Egyptology began with the publication of A Thousand Miles up the Nile by British journalist Amelia Edwards in 1876. after the success of her published travelogue, Edwards and Reginald Stuart Poole of the British Museum founded the Egypt Exploration Fund to raise money for archaeological excavations in the Nile Delta. Their first expedition sent Swiss Archaeologist Edouard Naville to Egypt in 1883, followed by Petrie in 1884, and both Naville and Petrie along with Francis Llewellyn Griffith in 1886. The Fund was renamed the Egypt Exploration Society in 1919, and still remains active today.
