Photographic album, entitled Pictorial Story of the Owners of Ashley Plantation and Scenes of Life on the Plantation. Barnwell County, South Carolina. c. 1939, 4to, containing 19 mounted black & white photographs, 2-1/2 x 4 inches and larger, depicting several generations of the Ashley family, scenes of the plantation house, lands, church on the property, and numerous workers and residents of the plantation, including 4 adult men described as former slaves. Manuscript text and captions in ink. Black textured board covers with black knotted cord binding. With loosely inserted letter (marked COPY) from Eugene V. Connett, III of the Derrydale Press thanking Mrs. Joseph Ashley for the opportunity to visit the plantation.

Condition varies, but most separating at fold creases.
2. RHETT, ROBERT BARNWELL. 1800-1876. Autograph Letter Signed ("R.B. Rhett"), to Richard Stilwater (?), 1 p, 4to, Washington, April 1, 1848. Together with and Autograph Note Signed, to G.W. Dimas & Co., ordering 5 gallons of hydrochloric acid and a quantity of zinc to be sent to the medical school in Charleston. Light soiling and browning.
3. PICKENS, FRANCIS. C.1806-1869. Autograph Letter signed ("Fr. Pickens"), to Francis L. Claxton, Consul at Moscow, 3 pp, St. Petersburg, Russia, December 24, 1858, on letterhead of the U.S. Legation, regarding a request from a J.M. Botts of Richmond, VA, asking for 300 silver rubles. Together with two Autograph Notes Signed, one to an unknown recipient, February 9, 1844, and one to General Harlee, undated. Some soiling and browning.
4. LAW, EVANDER M. 1836-1920. Autograph Letter Signed ("E.M. Law"), to Robert Costin Esq., regarding the sale of some of his Civil War relics, 2 pp, Darlington, SC, July 30, 1894, on letterhead of the South Florida Military Institute. Light soiling.
5. TATE, ALLEN. 1899-1979. "Ode to the Confederate Dead." Typescript signed ("Allen Tate"), 4 pp, 4to. Fold creases, slight yellowing.
Together with a typed letter signed from Senator Strom Thurmond, a South Carolina private bond certificate issued in 1868, and a slip of paper signed by W. Elmore Simms, dated 1833.
