TWO THANGKAS

Tibet, 18th/19th century
Comprising a thangka depicting Green Tara, opaque pigments on cloth, the goddess seated on a polychrome lotus, wearing a dhoti, elaborate foliate jewelry, and billowing sashes, flanked by the standing figures of Ekajati on the left and Brikuti on the right, Mahakala and a seated lama above, 18th/19th century; and a thangka depicting thousand-armed Avalokiteshvara, distemper on cloth, the all-seeing deity with eleven heads wearing silks with gold detail, standing atop a lotus blossom and before an aureole of extending multicolored lotus bulbs, the thousand arms beset with eyes radiating outwards and holding auspicious items, various lineage masters and protective deities positioned around the central figure, 19th century.
