Hibonite is a mineral occurring in various colors with a hardness of 7.5–8.0 and a hexagonal crystal structure. It is rare, but is found in high-grade metamorphic rocks on Madagascar and also Burma. A very rare gem, hibonite was discovered in 1953 in Madagascar by Paul Hibon, a French prospector. The present example is warm reddish-brown in hue, faceted as a pear-shaped stone. It is a classic example of a rare collector's stone. Weighing approximately 1.74 carats and measuring 9.79 x 5.59 x 4.55mm
