Footnotes

Spratling designed this pin during WW2 to help raise funds for the Red Cross. He also used the clasped hands across the America's as the letter head on his personal stationary. The design is pictured and explained on p.36 of WILLIAM SPRATLING AND THE MEXICAN SILVER RENAISSANCE by Penny Morrill. Spratling designs are a major focus of the permanent 20th Century Mexican silver collection at LACMA - Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
