The RA Summer Exhibition of 1992, was the first time that Vettriano had exhibited in London. He wrote to the buyer of 'The Waiter and The Wife' to thank them for their purchase and invite them to his forthcoming exhibition a few months later, which he promised "should be exciting!". This letter and original receipt will be passed on to the successful buyer of this lot.
Saleroom notices
Amendment to the footnote: Vettriano actually first had work included in the RA Summer Exhibition in 1988. This work was in the RA Summer Exhibition in 1992, the same year he had his first solo exhibition in London.
