Footnotes

藏東 十八世紀 苯教忿怒相神祇唐卡

The presence of the Nyamme Sherab in the middle right confirms the Bon affiliation of this powerful deity. The stylistic treatment and composition are consistent with a thangka of Totreng Tsal in the Rubin Museum of Art, New York (HAR#599) that is ascribed to the Amdo Ngaba area of Eastern Tibet.

Provenance:
The Estate of Dr. Joseph W. Foxell Jr., New Jersey
Thence by descent to the current owner

Saleroom notices

Please note the thangka depicts the rare subject of the Bon deity, Trogyal Raksha Chidul. For more information, see its listing on Himalayan Art Resources: https://www.himalayanart.org/items/4547
