A keen conservationist, David Shepherd is perhaps best known for his paintings of, and passion for wildlife. The start of his career, however, is linked to aviation. After independently obtaining a permit for Heathrow Airport, Shepherd began to paint commissions, largely of planes, for the Royal Air Force and the British Overseas Airways Corporation. This aerial view of Westminster depicts the City of London as if from a plane, paying homage to both Shepherd's lasting interest in landscapes, and his early love of flying and aeronautics.
