Museum-sized, Spectacular Calcite on Amethyst--"The Cathedral"

While the mineral association of calcite with amethyst is not uncommon, such a spectacular crystal habit as is displayed by the present example places it into the realm of world-class specimens. The geode is richly lined with large, lustrous violet and grape-hued amethyst crystals. Dramatically perched at the center is a calcite crystal cluster of architectural form. Resembling the French Gothic masterpiece of Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Chartres, the calcite appears to emit a luminous and ethereal internal glow. Such a stunning specimen is sure to present a dramatic visual centerpiece to any room and is worthy of consideration of the most serious mineral collection.
