A late 19th century Austrian silver, silver-gilt and enamel mounted rock crystal coupe
Hermann Böhm, Vienna, circa 1870
Shell shaped rock crystal bowl etched with chimera flanking foliate urns among scrollwork, the scrolling back mounted with a polychromed enamelled figure of a jester seated on a carpet, holding a book etched 'ANNO 1588', the stem formed as male warrior, kneeling with his arms aloft, with black enamelled detail to the body armour and with a red headdress, the circular mounts above and below, enamelled with flowers, bands of enamelled winged cherub masks and the rim further applied with seated cherubs, the rock crystal dome base similarly etched, the circular foot, with enamelled leaves and scrolls, exotic birds and female herms and applied gem stones to include emeralds and rubies, fine rope-twist rims, further applied with female herms, height 27cm.
