A German or Dutch late 18th century mahogany, purpleheart, ebony, plum, fruitwood and stained sycamore marquetry tric trac or games table

1775-1790
The detachable quarter veneered top with rounded eared angles and a moulded gallery, one side inlaid with a central chess playing surface flanked by two rectangular tablets, each tablet inlaid with a central scrolled cartouche and four assorted playing cards, one cartouche inlaid with a musical trophy and the other with a hunting trophy, the various playing cards including a King of Spades, a Queen of Diamonds, a Jack of Hearts and a Jack of Spades, with rosette-inset angles and central compass star motifs, the underside lined with baize, enclosing a backgammon playing surface centred by two rosette-embedded trellis tablets, flanked by two hinged lidded compartments, each with floral and foliate tendril inlay, above a plain frieze with triglyph and circular guttae angles, on square tapering legs terminating in brass cappings and castors, 102cm wide x 66cm deep x 74.5cm high, (40in wide x 25 1/2in deep x 29in high)
