Footnotes

By the early 19th century, some English medicine chests were manufactured in the continental European style. In the present example, the winged doors an fenestrated wooden partitions are a larger version of contemporary European designs. For a similar example, see A.M. Young, Antique Medicine Chests, London, 1994, p.32, fig.21.

Please note that from 19 January 2022, items containing ivory cannot be imported into the EU. The import of ivory into the USA is already prohibited.
