Two Ear Trumpets in silver and brass,

Charles Reily & George Storer, London 1830, and the brass engraved 'F C Rein & Son',
The silver model of bugle form, a flaring trumpet to one end, tapering to a small opening at the other for insertion into the ear, and a circa 1865 brass Rein & Son Grand Opera Dome ear trumpet, swan shaped with 'F C Rein & Son, Patentees, sole inventors & makers, 108 Strand London' engraved around the lower circumference of the dome and overall chased with scrolling decoration, with removable ivory earbud, topped by a perforated decorative silver grille, length largest 15.5cm, diameter largest 8.5cm, weight 4.5oz. (2)

Footnotes

F.C Rein & Son was a family firm founded in London in 1880, and was among the first companies to produce ear trumpets commercially. The domed design provides effective sound amplification in a compact instrument.
