the larger with hinged lid and front opening to a set of glass medicine bottles, some missing, the front with seven drawers, the hinged back opening to a set of eight glass medicine bottles, the chest with brass carrying handles to the sides; the smaller with hinged lid opening to a set of small glass medicine bottles, some labelled, the case with brass carrying handles to the sides,

Footnotes

The larger chest is an example of a 'Duke of York' chest, among the most popular designs in the first half of the 19th century. Such chests boast a hinged lid and hinged door to the front. For a similar example, see A.M. Young, Antique Medicine Chests, London, 1994, p.31, fig.20.
