Footnotes

Robert Wilson (1766-1824) appears to have started his career in Newcastle between 1794 and 1795, with the advent of his first registered maker's mark. He then moved to Scotland where his eldest son Robert was born in 1796, and his maker's mark is consequently seen in Edinburgh between 1798 to 1800. At the turn of the century Robert emigrates to New York with his young family, and continues working as a registered silversmith from 1803 up until 1810 when he made a move to Philadelphia. On his death in 1824, his sons Robert and William carried on the family business, registering a new maker's mark in 1825 for "R.& W. Wilson".
